STATE MINIMUM WAGE: PROTECTING THE LOW PAID IN SOCIETY

Catholic Commission for Employment Relations Executive Director Anthony Farley said the introduction of a State Minimum Wage is a “significant achievement” for the interests and welfare of low paid workers in New South Wales.

Who are we?

CCER is a not for profit organisation established by the Bishops of NSW and the ACT to provide advice and support to Catholic employers in the area of employment relations. It was established in response to the growing complexities faced by Catholic employers and the requirement to fulfil their legislative and other obligations.

CCER is structured t o meet the needs of employers in a number of sectors including parish and congregational works, social welfare, aged care and education.

CCER has a number of qualified legal and employment relations practitioners on staff to assist you.

Parishes, Dioceses And Religious Institutes

CCER assists parishes, chanceries and other Diocesan employers as well as Religious Congregations with their management of employment relations matters.

CCER is able to assist with workplace issues including the interpretion of awards, such as the Clerical and Administrative Award, advising on rates of pay for staff such as housekeepers and secretaries, as well as drafting contracts and providing advice on disciplinary matters and child protection issues. ... Social Welfare

CCER provides assistance to both large and small social welfare agencies, including aged care facilities.

People management issues such as dealing with poor performance and disciplinary matters, as well as the interpretation of awards like SACS and the Charitable, Aged and Disability Care Services Award, are areas with which CCER can assist employers. CCER can also support social welfare employers by providing assistance in drafting contracts of employment and training on relevant workplace topics, such as volunteer management and compliance..More

Education

CCER provides support services in the area of employment relations to the Catholic education sector, primarily consisting of:

  • Diocesan Catholic Education/Catholic School Offices
  • Systemic and Independent schools and colleges
  • Boarding residences

CCER can assist you as an employer by undertaking award negotiations; interpreting and advising on award issues; conducting training, forums and major conferences on important workplace matters; representing you at the Industrial Relations Commission; and facilitating networking opportunities.

National Police Check and Child Protection Services

CCER is an approved screening agency appointed by the NSW Minister for Youth to carry out the Working With Children Background Check on preferred applicants for child-related employment. CCER provides background checks for all Catholic independent and systemic schools; welfare agencies and religious institutions.

CCER is an Accredited Agency with the Commonwealth Agency, CrimTrac, and as such can arrange for National Criminal History Record Checks (police checks).  Police checks are undertaken principally to ensure that persons in positions of trust, specified fields of endeavour and/or required to meet legislative requirements (eg Aged Care Act 1997) are adequately screened for criminal records.

A team of experienced staff are available at CCER to provide professional advice and support in the area of child protection. This advice covers a range of areas relevant to employers in relation to the provision of a safe and secure environment for children and young people. These areas include:

    • Legislative responsibilities
    • Risk management
    • Policies and procedures
    • Investigations
    • Training
